Mama! Obama?

Making Bush Look Researched

In this week's speech, Obama said:

  • “As for our auto industry, I believe the nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it.” Uh Mr. Messiah America didn’t invent the automobile (Slow Joe probably wrote that part of the speech)
  • He also said the transcontinental railroad was built during our Civil War; umm no it wasn’t it was built after the Civil War between 1865 and 1869 - the Civil War was 1861-1865
  • and how about Obama’s statement about health care, "we must also address the crushing cost of health care. This is a cost that now causes a bankruptcy in America every thirty seconds.” No it doesn’t that would attribute every bankruptcy in America to rising health care costs a ridiculous claim.
  • How about Obama telling us the “tax cuts” will become effective on April 1 (i.e. April Fools Day), well at least that one was appropriate since the big recipients of the so called income tax cuts don’t pay income taxes at all.
  • And the big points, ignoring all historical evidence Obama’s speech highlights his view that government is the answer to nearly every problem from the bankruptcy of the auto industry, to health care and education. It is most definitely not. As Reagan said, “Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them” and “Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” Watching Obama’s speech I remembered this line from Reagan’s first inaugural address when the nation was in severe economic turmoil: “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” It was then, and it is again in the current economic crisis. I just wish we had elected a Congress and President that understood that.
